Default 94 RMS trans problems

Just bought a high mileage 94 RMS. Test drove it twice, of course these problems didn't manifest then - day after I brought it home, it suddenly has a trans issue. Not sure why it didnt display before, but there was a temp change here - around 75f when I test drove it, to 30f when the symptoms appeared.

Again, no issues when it was warm outside. When its cold:
The speedometer only wants to work when I'm accelerating hard.
The trans wants to slip, I can barely take off in first gear. If I move the shift lever to 2, it takes off OK in 2. Sitting at a stop light with it in D last night, it suddenly started shaking. I hit the gas and turned right and accelerated - it slipped, but smoothed out, hasnt replicated since.

I checked the codes via the onboard diagnostics thingy - I get codes 77, 78, 24, and 72 in that order.

Do I need to start with checking the wiring to the VSS, and replacing the VSS if the wiring checks out OK? I believe 77/78 are unrelated (the fans work fine, maybe these are because I was checking the codes from a cold start?)

Thanks in advance!
