What is a recall notice?

A vehicle recall is an announcement from a vehicle manufacturer or from the National Highway Transportation and Safety Association (NHTSA) that the vehicle or some aspect of the vehicle, including motor, car seats, trim and tires, fails to meet minimum safety standards and should be corrected. A recall notice can affect just a few vehicles within a certain make, be applicable to those with specialized parts or trims, or cover an entire line of make or model. Recalls can be for something as major as airbag or tire failures, or for something smaller like an engine valve malfunction which causes the fuel gage to stop working. Famous examples include the Ford Pinto recall when it was discovered that the gas tanks could become pierced by rear bolts, and thus explode; and the Takata air bag recall which addressed air bags exploding under certain conditions.


Are recalls mandatory?

Since vehicle and equipment recall notices are issued for safety, owners should make arrangements to bring the vehicle to the manufacturer to correct the problem. In certain extreme cases of safety violations, the recall notice will indicate that the owner should not drive the vehicle.


Do I have to pay or will the manufacturer pay for the recall related repairs?

Manufacturers are required to pay for safety recall-related repairs for any car that is 15 years old or younger (from the date sold to the first owner). It's possible that manufacturers will also pay for older vehicles, depending on the repair and scope of the issue.


How do I find out if there is a recall on my vehicle?

Vehicle owners should receive a notice in the mail from any safety recall, but the (website) Recall tool will allow you to select recalls by vehicle year, make, and model.

    Summary: General Motors has decided that certain 2027 Chevrolet Bolt EV, 2025-2026 Cadillac OPTIQ, Chevrolet Colorado, Equinox EV, GMC Canyon, 2026 Buick Enclave, Envision, Cadillac CT5, Escalade, Escalade ESV, Escalade IQ, Escalade IQL, LYRIQ, VISTIQ, Chevrolet Blazer EV, Corvette Convertible, Corvette Coupe, Corvette Convertible E-Ray, Equinox, Silverado 1500, 2500, 3500, Silverado EV, Suburban 1500, Tahoe, Traverse, GMC Acadia, Hummer EV Pickup, Hummer EV SUV, Sierra 1500, 2500, 3500, Sierra EV, Terrain, Yukon, and Yukon XL vehicles. The radio may not have been set to the correct status to download the electronic owner's manual during production. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 208, ?Occupant Protection.?

    Consequence: Without an owner's manual to consult, owners may not know how to safely use and operate the vehicle, increasing the risk of injury in a crash.

    Remedy: Dealers will reset the vehicle radio, which will facilitate automatic download of the electronic owner?s manual, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed April 13, 2026. Owners may contact GM customer service at 1-866-467-9700, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 or Cadillac customer service at 1-800-333-4223.     Summary: General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2014 Buick Verano and Chevrolet Cruze vehicles. The left and/or right-side roof-rail air bag (RRAB) inflators located on the roof rails above the headliner, may rupture at the inflator weld joint.

    Consequence: An inflator that ruptures may partially inflate the air bag and cause sharp metal fragments to enter or exit the vehicle, increasing the risk of an injury.

    Remedy: Dealers will replace the left and/or right-side RRAB modules, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed December 5, 2025.
