New guy with fuel gauge problem

Hey everyone just wanted to introduce myself. I have a 1985 Buick Regal with a 3.8 andautomatic tranny.The fuel gauge reads about a quarter tank high. When it reads a quarter tank its empty. When its full it reads way past the full mark. Is it robably just the sending unit. Thanks alot
