The gas guage on my 2000 LeSabre is acting up. It seems to work OK from full down to about1/2 a tank, then it will start moving up to about 3/4 to full and back every few minutes.

Any ideas?

Thanks

George

The most likely cause is the fuel level sensor. I've seen them go bad before. The fuel sending unit can be accesed through the trunk but you need to have a special tool to get it out.

Speacial tool is brass Rod and Brass malet. You can't have any sparks!

I'm having the same problem. I also notice when thefuel levelgets down to 1/2 full the service engine light comes on and I have a "gas cap loose" message. Fill the tank and both problems go away.

Can fuel sending unit be replaced by a shade tree mechanic. What's the need of the brass punch?
