A co-worker of mine asked me to check his timing for him and advance/retard it if need be. The car is an '83 with a v6 4.1 in it, along with an HEI distributor. I've done timing plenty of times, but I'm more familiar with older cars. So my question is, where is the vacuum advance hose? Is it that little "canister" that sits on the passenger side of the motor, just off to the rear of the carb? Or is there a wire underneath the dash that needs to be disconnected? Or is there another wire around the motor that needs to be disconnected? Also, what do you guys suggest would be the best timing to set it at? According to the specs sticker, it should be at 15*. Is this best for a stock motor? If I were to advance it, what's the highest you guys recommend for it? Thanks in advance everyone!
