Default Muffler 90 Regal 3.1 Limited 2Door which one?

Hi everyone,

I will need a new muffler installed on my 1990 Regal 3.1 VIN-T 189CID 2 Door Limited Coupe.

Don't need a sound fx or anything other than OE Style.
Did a lot of research which led me to these two choices:
Walker 22461
Walker 18154

It's still the factory installed exhaust at present on my car.

I was wondering: Do i really need a new pipe for the 22461? Is this because it is noticably shorter than the 18154?

The spout on the 22461 looks strange, I know the 18154 needs spout 41013. Confused here as well....

As far as I am guessing is that I can get a 18154 and clamp it to my original pipe? Is that correct?

Man, thats not an easy job getting this exhaust stuff right.
I can't afford buying the wrong parts. Shipping to germany is quite expensive.

Thanks for helping,

Martin

I will try to see if I can help get the correct choice for your car. It's 4: 30 AM and I have to wait for the auto stores to open which isn't until 7- 8 AM.
Usually the info needed is , 1990 Buick Regal 2 door coupe, auto trans, 3.1 L engine and you provided all that info. So let's see what we can find and if some others also check you should get the right parts the first time.

I checked with a local NAPA dealer and the 22461 is a lifetime warranty muffler and cost a few bucks more.
They could not pull up the 18154 # , but did come up wit a 18246 which is a cheaper muffler approx half the price.
I checked the Walker site and they did show the 18154 # , but that may no longer be available.
I think you will be fine with the 22461 muffler, but it depends how long the exhaust systems last there whereas you may get by with the cheaper version depending on how long you want to keep your car. auf Wiedersehen!

Thanks Hanky for your effort. I really appreciate this!

The 18246 is the Sound-FX alterantive for the 22461.

There are plenty of the 18154 / 22461 arround on ebay, albeit they all ship
to the US solely.

Maybe I should get the 22461 (shorter than 18154 ???) with an extra spout 10189 and a pair of 2" clamps and a short slice of straight tube.

Guess what, shipping exceeds the value of these things all together.

This seems to be the first replacement of the muffler, which is now on for 21 years! Lucky me I have the pleasure to replace it right now ;(

Have the regal for almost two years, don't want to miss it anytime in the near future. Have to show it to the German TÜV (MOT) next month. Curious what they say. To be sure the other work done beforehand .

Thanks again, Vielen Dank!

Martin

Any update on this derwochi? Interested to hear if your inspection was successful.

If you haven't sourced a new muffler yet, I would bet that there are companies in your country that specialize in importing goods from other countries. Yes, buying from them usually profits them pretty well, as their prices seem unusually high. But if the shipping costs and hassles and extra time you spend add up to more, it might just be worth a few extra marks/Euros up front, rather than more later?

Not sure about that of course, as each individual circumstance is different. But I've sent lots of stuff in years past through other companies that import in bulk, so they might be a choice for you.

Hope it's going well.

Hi,

to cut it short, the inspection was fine except for the rear struts missing the rubber damper. These arrived today from rockauto.com. Will show it again to the TÜV tomorrow. On the first inspection he didn't even blame the muffler. Lucky me! I don't plan to replace it real soon anymore since it doesn't blow by right now.

For the parts sources, yes there are some companies doing imports, however in special cases I'd be better off asking someone for a favour in sending it over to me.

Btw., we don't have Deutsche-Mark anymore, unfortunately ;-(

Nevertheless, thanks for the update on this,

have a nice weekend everyone,

Martin

That's good luck for you about the muffler. And yeah, if it's not leaking or making other rude noises, leave it alone.

And yeah, knew about the Marks too, but like to think of the old days too sometimes. For better or for worse.

Thanks for the update. Hope you enjoy your Regal and it doesn't give you any trouble.
