Default restoring a 1940 buick eight

my grand father passed away a few years ago leaving my grandma with a few old cars. I live across the county from where the car is (in Michigan) but I'm here visiting hoping to get it up and running.
the car's in great shape for it's age, some small rust. The carb looks to have been cleaned and I was told the car was fully running before it was stored in the barn.

today I'll be draining any gas in it and cleaning the varnish out. I've also already started charging the best condition 6v battery i could find in the garage.
here's a picture to start out
