New guy here, hangout on the chevytalk site but have a 2000 buick question.


Last inspection was told that I would need new rotors and pads b4 next inspection. My question is


If I replace both the rotors and pads at the same time do I need to have the rotors turned or are they good from new.


Second question; what brand rotors and pads should I use. The Buick is a wife car and gets a lot of local trips.

Turning the rotors sometimes is done to save money instead of replacing them if they are warped or scored. Used to be it was a standard part of a brake job. Generally, it is not recommended now, because today's rotors are often marginal in thickness to begin with.


You are probably wise to replace them. I used to feel that you could buy on price, but I understand that there have been problems with the metal quality in some imports. Probably should try to get an established brand from NAPA or similar. If you get new, they will be ready to go.

Agree here totally,
Replace Rotors and pads ?.. no required turning. Rotors are good from new.

If you have tools, its pretty simple. For collapsing the servo piston to make room for those new big pads you may need a 4" "C" clamp and slowly clamp it down as it moves back. Your Brake fluid resovoir may overflow at that time as it displaces the fluid. If you dont have tools, buy them and in the end you will have tools at proubbly cheaper than a Pro Shop. Torque every thing back firm!
