Just for additional "information"
From my
experience, if the CPS fails, no siginal is being sent to the
ECM, therefore, no signals are sent to the Injectors and Spark
Plugs. This would apply to the OBD=I systems, which his, I
believe is.

the CRANKshaft sensor failure will STOP the motor and car.
The Camshaft sensor wont. You can disconnect Camshaft sensor and the car still runs. However, Some CRANKsensors do not cut out completely and the engine will cut out, jerk and restart expecially at speed.
