I have an 1987 park avenue that mis fires on only the front three cylinders, never the back three. I can tell this by putting my timing light on each plug wire. Is this caused by the coil or the module under it? this is a type one or magnavox coil. Any help would be great.

It could be a coil. I don't know about the '87, but newer 3800's have three coils, each of which fires two cylinders. Obviously, if you have multiple coils, some could fire fine.

I guess the first thing I would replace is the spark plug wires, as they don't seem to last too long on that engine, and they are relatively cheap. It seems possible that the fronts could be bad while the more protected backs are not.

I'm sorry, but I'm not familiar enough with your vehicle to answer your other questions.Edited by: MrBSS

if you call a dealership parts dept with your vin number, they should be able to tell you what coil was OEM on your car.
