Default 2012 LaCrosse Engine is Toast

Hi.
semi-long time lurker, 1st time poster.

Our 2012 2.4l Ecotech tossed a crankshaft position error code the other day. Took it into the shop to take a look. Called to inform us this morning that lots of shavings in the oil and the timing chain is slapping pretty bad. Looks like we have 2 choices; Part out (or try to) and sent to salvage or replace the engine.

The car is still in great shape (minus the engine fiasco), if I choose to replace the engine (when WI warms up this spring/summer) which control modules need to be replaced, the main PCM/ECM or are we looking the lot? I'd rather put $2500 into the car and driving/selling rather than sending to salvage and getting a few pennies.

Suggestions or thoughts?

Thanks much.

Decided against a rebuild/replacement and sold the car as is. One less headache to deal with.
