Default Solenoid

My starter solenoid is non-functional. I have searched the net for a new one (Delco-Remy 1118019) to no avail. Someone please put me out of my misery and give me a clue as to who might sell them.

If there is a shop someplace near you that rebuilds starters and alternators, they should be able to assist you with locating the part you need.

Wink I Did It

No one I can find sells or rebuilds old solenoids. I pulled the solenoid and isolated the problem. The coil that closes the points (relay) to activate the plunger coil was history for some unknown reason. I decided to pull that little coil by grinding the head off the rivet that holds it. I then epoxied a relay in its place and wired it to activate the plunger coil with a signal from the starter switch on the carb. Worked like a charm. Since I already had the relay, the job cost me nothing, and lends itself to future repair. I discovered the current day "alternator and starter" repair guys are just "pull and replace until it works" guys with little knowledge of how to actual repair anything. Sad.
