Having the same problem with my 00 Regal (non SC)...when this happens as I'm driving down the road, I quickly shift to neutral, then restart and IMMEDIATELY give it tons of gas ( up to 5000 RPM), then shift back into drive. after I do that, it seems to drive just fine. Two or three days later, repeat. Anyone with any ideas??

Okay well first off you should never put up with ANY kind of abuse at all. Second he is cleaarly emotional unstable for taking all those pills. Theres nothing you can do about him being unstable because only a counsler can do that. You can't fix someone elses problems, you can only help them FIND help. Talk to him about this and if he really love you then he will try to fix this problem and he will go to a counsler.

Honestly, you've already replaced the starter that you didn't need. "He said" and "brother-in-law" suggestions are going to bankrupt you before the real cause is discovered.
Get it properly diagnosed - it will be a lot less expensive in the long run.

Is the buick regal has immobiliser system? If it is, then it's the problem, the problem could caused by chip on the key. But, if the key could open the door by pressing the key button, then the key is no longer the problem because the buick can read the key signal. To turn on the buick regal, 3 things need to combined, air - fuel - spark. Check the buick regal for miss one of those.

if it starts and runs at all it is not the immobilizer or the chip in the key, could be the fuel pump or pump relay, turn the ignition on and see if you can hear a faint buzzing from the back for a few seconds no buzzing means faulty pump or relay
