I have a 93 Lesabre with a 3.8 V-6. Intermittantly when I try to start the engine it will not start in the normal manner. After turning the key a second time I have to press the accelerator to the floor and then the car will start, although rev up to 2000 or 3000 rpm. After a short time the rpm's will drop to normal idle.

This problem does not occur at any particular interval that I can determine or any particular set of circumstances such as setting for any length of time. When this occures it will happen for the next several attempts at starting and then will not happen for a week or so.

If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated.

ps. There have been no repairs to the vehicle at this time attempting to correct the problem.

The fuel mileage has not had a noticabel decrease. It has been a while since it has been taken in of r a tune up. I do most of the stuff myself. Plugs and wires were changed approx 2 months ago, battery is about 1 yr old. Fuel filter is new as of this weekend, air filter and oil change about a month ago (as a side note, I use synthetic oil), I use fuel injector cleaner in the gas every 3 or 4 fill-ups,

When I changed the fuel filter this weekend I also used carb cleaner and cleaned the MAF sensor and EGR valve. After doing this I have not had the propblem, however with it being intermittant I do not know if this corrected the problem or not.

So far, as of today there have been no problems since the cleanings.

if it makes you feel any better, I have a 1980 Regal that does the same thing except I have to put the pedal to the floor or it will stay on high idle!
