'99 Park Av. 3.8 (not supercharged)with a motor noise. I took off the plug wires one at a time and got the knock to really make noise on #4 cyl.

Is it a big job to replace the motor? Do I need a lift? Does the motor come out the top with the transmission attached?

Are there special tools needed?

I got a price of 900 for the motor and 750 for installation.

I'd just like some advice because it's my father in laws car but I will be either fixing it or scraping it and buying him something else.

Thanks

I think that you've found a very reasonable price, assuming that the engine is good and the installer knows what he's doing. It is a big job and not one that most people should tackle....maybe only if you've got a real good friend who's done it before.

Keep in mind that you could probably buy a similar (or better) car for not much more. Unless there's something real special about a given car, it really doesn't pay to put a lot into it these days.

900 is a little high for the n/a engine that year. you could find a L67 for that much (supercharged).
