Can I switch to ethanol?
#11
Last week I put a FullFlex Gold in my PA and it now runs on E85 almost flawless.
The only quirk is that when the engine is hot, it is a wee bit more cranky to start. It needs a poke on the gas pedal to get running.
Aside of that, no problems.

What is a FullFlex Gold?
It's not surprising that it runs fairly well on E85, but you may have more trouble when it gets cold there. How far down is your mileage?
My understanding is that most problems occur after a year or so when the alcohol shortens the life of various fuel system components.

Mileage went from 24 average to 16, but I have only finished one tank so far and this was mostly city. I need to drive more to make a relevant comparison.

I haven't bothered making the switch with my car for2 mainreasons after doing more research. E85 is not available in my area yet andI've been reading up on the fumes/exhuast that it produces and it's not any better than gasoline. I'm saving my pennies for a hydrogen car

Well, I don't know what you've been reading, but actually, E85 issignificantly better in the area of carbon emissions (greenhouse gas). This might not be apparent because, until recently, CO2 was not considered a pollutant.
Where will your hydrogen come from?

The hydrogen comment was mostly a joke. I saw a documentary on cars of the future and hydrogen cars seemed the most appealing to me. Norway already has interestates set up strictly for hydro cars with solar powered filling stations along the way. It's pretty cool and the cars can still beroomy and powerful. E85 is said to put of dangerous fumes to humans. They say it can actually be more harmful to human lungs than gasoline fumes. Not sure if this is true and like you mentioned the green house gases are bad news... it seems there is no seriously good answer yet IMO. That is why I made the comment about hydrogen cars.
