Welcome to the forum! That is a very sexy car you have

Try putting your vin in http://compnine.com. It should give you some information about your car. That site has changed a lot recently and I'm not 100% familiar with its features anymore.

There is an article in the May/June 2012 of 'The Riview' that gives the total breakdown by percentages and numbers of the information you are seeking, along with much more information on the '77-'78 Riviera production makeup.

You can go to the ROA, Riviera Owner's Association website. There is a yearly subscription fee with access to the restricted areas (a must have!) and a bi-monthly magazine (a must have!). A great resource!!!

BTW....I own a LXXV.

Thanks 2k2cse and 1978 Riviera LXXV. But the VIN number is 13 numbers and most online VIN look up sites require a 17 VIN number.

And I contacted the director and editor of ROA, and he told he has never seen a LXXV with moonroof. He does not know the amount of produced versions like mine.

My friend just bought a 1978 Buick Riviera, according to Wikipedia these cars had either the Buick 350 V8 or the Oldsmobile 403 V8 engines. Is there a quick way to visually identify which engine he has?
The Oldsmobile 403 engine has an oil filler in the front center of the engine. The color of the engine is mostly light blue. Where as a buick 350 is not.
To be 100% sure you need to look at the engine vin number.

Hei
Nice car you have there I didn't know they came without vinyl top! I have one myself with a top in poor condition, and I have always wondered how the car would look like without it - now I know. It's quite nice.
