with the same car

 

20mpg in town! Most likely the traffic is light where you're driving.


To me, it takes 15-20 minutes to goto work and40-60minutes to return. A lot of stop'n'go and idling on the return path. Plus a hill I have to climb both ways.

yes traffic is light and i use hi octane gas. 20mpg is in summer too.

in winter it's less.

 

I'm not sure what I get during everyday driving, but on highway trips, I've gotten as high as 28.7 and as low as 22mpg. If I can keep the cruise on 75 or 80, I'll see 28 or more, no problem. When I set it above 85 or 90 (az desert highway between Phoenix and CA), I was only getting 22 or so.

For a couple of years ago I own A 1987 century stationwagon with the 3,8 engine and I was really surprise every time i will fill it up with gas, never less than 22-23 MPG with a lot of city-driving. Now I own a 1995 Cadillac DeVille with the 4,9 engine and this will have 18 MPG at the same driving. I have look at A 1999 Park Avenue Ultra, My question is if this supercharged enginewill have much more fuel than the old 3,8 without compressor or can I drive It at 22-23 MPG like the Century. (50% city 50% Highway)

 

My wife drives a 99 Regal and gets around 22 city and averages around 28 highway.

 

I have a '97 Ultra (Supercharged). It is my second; first purchased new and sold at ~260,000 miles. I still see it driving around the neighborhood.


I think you will like the SC engine. You can get very good economy if you drive nice, and still have a car that is very fast when you want it to be.


One small downside is that you are supposed to use 91 octane fuel. However, I don't believe you will do any damage using regular because the engine computer will retard the timing at incipient knock. Particularly during winter, I often use regular and have seen no problems.


PS: Keep in mind that the Park Avenue is a larger car, and even with the same engine, is not likely to achieve the same mileage.

Regal 1995 in Holland: 50% highway (max speed 75 mph) and 50 % city driving, she is doing fine at 25 mpg. At least better than BMW 3.4 egine in 735i that was using 21 mpg with same usage...
