Default Emissions "not ready" 2008 Lucerne

I just bought an 08 Lucerne this past Saturday. Beautiful inside and out, only 101,000 miles. Had emissions test done this morning in order to get it registered and if failed saying it "wasn't ready". They suggested I drive the car for a couple weeks, or a hundred miles or more at various speeds and on highway and in stop and go traffic in order to get it ready again. Not sure exactly what was done or reset before I bought it to cause this to happen. If any has experienced this or has any insight or advice on this situation I would love to hear back from you. I'm hoping this is resolved soon because I only have 7 days to get this car registered legally. Thanks in advance and I look forward to hearing from anyone who may be able to help me it with this unforeseen problem.

Had the SAME crap happen to me, except I was told to erase all my codes myself, so I did! Needless to say, I learned the "very hard way" to get my car to pass the test. But first, since this post of yours was from February, I imagine that you already have this figured out, or, you got rid of the car or just had to park it! Anyway I talked to a car mechanic where I used to live and he said that I would have to duplicate the FACTORY PROTOCOL to the very letter in order to get the "ready monitors" to set and clear... The E check people gave me some papers that described just what you said that you were supposed to do - some random driving routine... Well, I never had to do this before so I didn't know who to believe. I bought a cheap Diagnostic tool with an interactive screen. I had about one week to do this, so I drove "the random way" as much as I could for that week. (more on that later if you wish). I kept checking the scanner every so often until one day I was blown away to find that the red "not ready" dots had turned to green "ready dots"! What a relief! It worked! But the details matter, so you need to go over this kind of stuff with somebody who has been through it already! Go for it!
