Default Just stopping by

Just stumbled across this site and thought I'd say hi.

I found my 1993 Buick Century on Craigslist in November 2009 and love it. It had 46K miles on it when I bought it--the original owner's obit was in the paper three weeks later. She was 94 and hardly ever drove. A front strut was broken when I got it. It had gone long enough that it also needed springs. I suspect she hit a curb or something and it never registered. So $2,500 for the car, $500 in repairs and I was--and am--good to go.

I was a bit worried about the engine running rough, but a year of every-day driving, fuel injector cleaner put in the gas tank with every oil change and it has smoothed out. It looks new and is the nicest-looking car I've owned (my previous ride was a 1994 Taurus purchased at a garage sale for $500, driven 50K miles and sold for $1,400--I am frugal when it comes to cars). Below are some pictures. Note the little-old-lady scrape at the bumper corner in the last shot from trying to parallel park at church every Sunday. Every corner is like that. And, yes, the previous owner's main use for this car was going back and forth to church. I live in a small town and have verified this with her nephew, who, it turns out, works with my wife.

It has the V6, but still is under-powered, I think. I also wish it had ABS, or at least better brakes in the rear than the ones that accumulate brake dust in such a way as to make it sound like you're metal-on-metal even when the brakes are perfectly fine. I'm told this is a GM design flaw (this is my first GM product). Both of these are truly minor points. I always worried about the transmission going out on my Taurus--they're notorious for that--but have no similar concerns now. I feel like this is a major upgrade.

I clock about 12K miles a year and hope to be driving this car a decade from now.

Hi and welcome to the site.
Once you get all the bugs out of a car that just sat most of the time you will have a good vehicle. If I had to choose between a Buick and a Cadillac , my choice would be the Buick. Hang on to that car . With little , but proper attention they are great and will give many miles and years of good service. Keep us informed as you enjoy your new investment, and Happy New Year !
