Howdy. I bought a 83 Buick Electra for $400 and turned it into a Dirt track bomber here in Arizona. It only needed a brake power boost. It has a small block 307 olds in it that may be on its last leg(knocks and smokes). I would like to replace the SB307 with a big block 400 or 455. I'm told that the deck height is the only major difference. Will this be a easy swap and can a Pontiac or Buick wildcat 400 or 455 be used as well. Thanks, NeoVintage

so i take it your class allows modified engines. and yes a buick olds pontiac (bop) will have the same bellhousing. fairly easy swap

.

idk what you have done suspension wise, but that is KEY in dirt racing. or in any racing really. once you have the suspension all set, THEN mod the engine.

Thanks Sam,
We have already added heavier springs on the right side and will probably add front left also to help the heavier engine. The only rule in the class about engines they must remain stock and no V8 chevys. No mention of size, and many of the other drivers are running big blocks that were not original. I will give updates. Thanks again, NeoVintage

Not sure why you are so easily confused. Just trying to put it in proper topic and get more answers. Thanks again, NeoVintage.

im not easily confused, but if someone posts in one, and may not get info from the other, it becomes a huge mess. i can move it to a different section if you want. lmk.

actually Neo, i just realized something, you can direct swap with any bop small block. but with a bb, you would need a different trans. unless you happend to have one of the rare, universal bellhousing transmissions.
