I just purchasedan '89 Skylark with a 2.3 Quad 4 cylinder motor. It as 64k and has 2 previous owners, both being basically grannies. I'm having MAJOR overheating problems along with repetitive stalling. I have not seen thecar for myself yet, but from what I'm being told, the car will start right up, run for 10 mins, stall piddle a little bit (from what I believe would be the water pump or coolant reservior), crank right up in another 5 mins, and repeat 10 mins later. My mother decided to take it to a mechanic who said the motor is absolutely 100% toasted. I've talked to other people who have a greater knowledge of this motor than I do, and I've heard that it could possibly be the Coolant tempsensor, Ignition module, or possibly a bad water pump withthe issue of piddling at hand. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know. Thanks.
