i got an 89 lesabre with 110,000 on it. The car runs great goin down the road and has plenty of power but when im idlin in park the cars rpm goes up and down slightly and alot of times itll drop down so low im afraid the cars gonna die. whether its warmed up or not. sounds like its chokin. I suspect my fuel pump is goin out. its loud as hell and doesnt always prime when i turn the key to accesory. i've replaced the plugs, cleaned out my throttle body, changed fuel filter and always changed the oil/air filter as regular maintenace. i dunno wat to do next.

I dunno if they have idle sensors in them at that year or not but, that's something you can check other than the obvious. Sounds like you've done pretty much everything else. On a side note, Mine has 193K on it and she's still runnin so, it'll run for a good long while if ya take care of er.

to test the fp you need to get a pressure gauge and test at the rail. test psi at idle, WOT, and a couple minutes after shut down. you can simulate WOT by pulling the vac line off the fpr.

but what did you use to clean the tb? and did you removed the maf to clean?

cleaning the maf like that is very bad for them. you may have damaged it. they are very sensitive, and carb cleaners are rather aggressive. they make cleaner specific for the maf. but i have heard of using that electrical contact spray too.

if the symptoms didnt change after cleaning, it may be ok, but then again it may have failed prior to the cleaning. i would still get the fp pressure before moving further.

but i did forget to mention the cars check engine light has came on about 4 or 5 times since ive had the car (about a yr.) but it only stays on for like 30 sec. then when i give it a lil gas it goes off. how long are the codes stored in the computer and how do i jump and readthe a and b terminals in the diagnostic port. i dont think it has anything to do with my idle but i like to try and keep everything in tip top shape on this car cuz if it breaks im screwed lol.

each computer is different, but i believe the ecu's those years store the codes for @ least 50 key cycles. each cycle has to run for like 20 minutes to count as a full cylce.
