Default 1956 buick firewall seam sealer

Good evening all,

I'm restoring a 1956 buick special convertible.
I need to know if the buick factory painted the car first then sealed the seams or did they apply the seam sealer first then painted the car. I'm going for the factory look restoration. I know that nowadays people apply the primer then the seam sealer then paint. Any and all help will be appreciated a lot. Thank you in advance.

From what I recall , the sealer was applied first and then painted over so as to blend in with the rest of the vehicle.

I remember watching when they were assembling Cadillac Sevilles and the Buick Riviera at the Linden, NJ assembly plant which is no longer.. The Caddy seams were welded and finished and the Buicks were smeared and painted.
