Hi,

I just bought a 1992 Lesabre, and the problem I am facing is that when you turn either direction, there is a clunk coming from the front.

It does not matter which way you turn, but rather how far you turn the wheel. It doesn't seem to clunk on light turns, but will clunk on medium to sharp turns.

If you turn the wheel to the right and it clunks, the car will pull to the right. If you make it clunk in a left turn right after, it will go back to driving in a straight line.

Please help!

Lee

Your upper strut bushings need lubricating.

Fooling around with the steering is unsafe. Get you car up on a rack, and have the front end checked. The above-listed posts could be the problem, OR you could have a bad tie rods, a loose steering rack, etc. The reality is this is probably something you can't fix in your driveway. A reputable alignment shop might do the diagnosis for little or nothing. Whatever the cost, it's cheaper than ending up in a ditch somewhere.

MHTUBA.... best advice.. Some places will diagnose for free..

Sounds like you have a single clunk.. If thats true.. get some professional attention to that area.

Jack up the car the wheels are just off the ground and put a wedge
under the tire and lift. Try using a tire iron for instance. Look for
looseness and noises.. Turn the steering wheel with it off the ground
on jacks.

Depending on if the clunk is in rythm with the wheel rotation. My
thoughts were.. Steering system, CV joint, Loose studs on wheel,
Struts, bushings.

Just thoughts.
