Default 89 buick lesabre

We have a 1989 Buick Lesabre 3.8 liter engine . Vehicle was shutting off after a few minutes of running. diagnostic hookup only showed cam sensor no signal received. installed new sensor and cleared all codes. after starting engine check engine light comes back on and same code is present.. pulled cam sensor out and inspected cam gear for missing interrupter magnet and found magnet in place. performed cam signal test and found that my ground and power are working but according to the manual the reading for the cam sensor should range between 5 and 7 volts when testing and should drop to 0 voltage once during two full turns of the crankshaft but instead voltage drops out 3 time before I get one full turn on the crank. vehicle runs rough and is very heavy on exhaust fume, running very rich. Was wondering if its possible that a piece of the magnet could have broken off and magnetized a few places on the cam gear. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

What code are you getting? 41 or 42?

Also, does the coil system have 3 individual coils or are all the coils on 1 mount?
All coils on 1 mount = type 1 coil syst.
3 individual coils = type 2 coil syst testing is different for each system

Make sure the connections to the ign module are good . If OK, module is most likely faulty.
