Default 2001 3.8 Pull Motor or Tranny?

Narrowed rear oil leak down to either a rear main seal or loose bolts on engine cover. Only 85,000 miles on this LaSabre and 3rd replace of the oil pan gasket. Not the gasket...or switch...or sensor. Oil concentrated at rear of engine (drivers side). Removal of torque converter cover showed no oil on flexplate or converter..but definitely running down between tranny and flexplate making that end of the oil pan look like its the problem. Hard to see up too far..wiped the area down then ran the car without the torque converter cover and could see oil mainly concentrated on rear of engine oil pan.

Question.....is it less complicated to pull the engine or the tranny? Seems like the only path I have to choose from to get to this rascal of an oil leak. Any recommended source of basic how to for doing either? Pretty handy shade tree mechanic but experience is more on old hotrods and not this front wheel drive stuff. Just tryin to do alittle homework before I have to work harder than I need to.

Appreciate any insight out there.
