Headlight switch removal on 1969 Skylark

Headlight switch removal on 1969 Skylark
I am in the process of replacing the headlight switch in a 1969 Skylark and can’t get the **** off the end of the shaft. Is it just pull off and is tight because of age or is there a special way to remove it???
