I know that this is a Buick Forum, but the Olds forum suggested that I use a Buick V6.

I just bought a 1963 Olds F85 without an engine & Trans.

I would like to know the last year and model GM built a rear wheel drive car with the V6?

Thanks,

Jack..

I am not expert in this area, but I don't think a recent Buick V6 would bemy first choice. The most common (3.8/3800) Buick V6's arederivedfrom thebig Buick V8.They never would have been installed in an early60's F85/Special.So it might fit, but it very well might not. Also, although well-developed in recent models, this is not an impressive engine design.

With enough time and money, you can do anything, butI think the easiest and most available powertrain(assuming you aren't concerned with an accurate restoration) would be a Chevrolet, as in Chevy II/Chevelle. If you are concerned with accuracy, I would try to get one of the "baby" V8's that GM was putting in those cars. Probably hard to find now though.Edited by: MrBSS

if u want a buick v6, the 3800s will bolt up to most rwd chevy transmissions. it really wouldnt be that difficult to make sumthin like that work. 3800 will bolt up to 700r4. 4l60, th350, etc.

oh and i believe the last rwd buick eng was the 87 regals and other like body shells. with the 231.

I have access to a 1988 front wheel drive with a v6. I just need to know if a rwd trans will bolt up to the fwd 3.8 and have mounts on the sides of the block.

Thanks
