Default Brake master cylinder problem Question

Hi all, I just recently replaced my master cylinder in a '97 Buick LeSabre, and had the "spongy pedal" issue but more importantly, while taking it for a road test it had a major leak at the back end, where the MC is attached to the brake booster. When I took the old one (probably original) out, it was basically all dry at that area, but this leak seems to be coming directly out of there. Is this a bad MC, with internal seal(s) leaking? I know I snugged it to the two mounting bolts solidly, although I didn't use a torque wrench, but from my understanding there shouldn't be any brake fluid visible at the rear end, right? If it's bad, I'm gonna have to return it and wait for a replacement unless I can get an advanced replacement meanwhile. Thanks for any info.
