Im new here and I know nearly nothing about cars when it comes to under the hood stuff.

But here are the facts:

I got a 89 skylark custom from my grandma with 39k miles...yes 39k.

It was fine for awhile and then I had to replace the computer.

about 6 months later the computer went out again, and then again 2 days later. The spark plugs where also replaced(not the wires however) but sometimes it will run fine other times it needs constent gas in order to stay running. It will sometimes sputter and buck. From what I have heard from talking to people it is some sort of electrical problem that keeps frying my computers. Anyone have any ideas on what the problem could be?

Thanks in advance.

I would first put a meter on it to see if the voltage is running high. Shouldn't ever be much above 14v (~14.4 max). Next, check cable connections especially grounds. They tend to corrode and computers don't like erratic voltage. Edited by: MrBSS
