Had my car in for oil change and brakes at dealer. Suggested I replace Catalytic converter due to check engine soon light code. He reset the code. Replaced the catalytic converter. Check engine light came back on, then after three starts disappeared. A week later, we now have a new problem, car will start fine in the morning but after three 30 km trips. It won''t start unless the gas pedal is held down.Replaced gas cap. Problem is still there. Do I have a leak (possible EGR valve). Is there an inexpensive solution?

I am going to disconnect EGR hose and put screw in to see if EGR or leak is causing system. Is this ok to try? If it is the EGR valve is this fairly inexpensive and easy to replace.

Thanks in advance for the forum and any responses.

Well, I did a lot of research and suspected the EGR valve. I got the price from the dealer at approx $135 plus $6.50 for the gasket. Took to my local service station before I bought the part. He discoonected the wiring harness blew it out,re-connected and voila it is now fine. Problem solved and money saved.

Hope this helps someone down the road....

Prices on replacement EGR valves are all over the place: some parts are reasonably priced while others will cost you a mint. Replacing an EGR valve is a simple process and can be accomplished with standard automobile tools. Check it out here, rx7.org/Robinette/egr_replace.htm
