I''m know that this topic has been discussed again and again, but never answereing all the questions I have, so here goes nothing.

I have a 1979 Oldsmobile Cutlass Calais with a 3.8 Buick motor (stock motor, weird I know). The car only has 24 345 KM''s(that is not a typo, and it hasn''t rolled over).

So here''s the dilemma: the car has no power. Big suprise. I am looking into ways of modding the motor just to build a bit more power. Let''s get one thing straight. This is a show quality original car, and I plan on KEEPING THE SAME MOTOR, NON TURBO. I am also not attempting to buil a drag racer. Just a minor tweaking is what I''m looking for.

I''ve already picked out the cam I want. So that''s covered.

What I want to know is about intakes. Edelbrock offers a new intake, but doesn''t have egr provisions. What can I expect from removing my egr? I understand that the engine will operate at a higher tempature, and there is a posibillity of pinging. How can this be advoided? I know I could grab an intake of of a 4.1, but I like brand new things.

Next up is headers. Only two kinds available, pace setter and headman. Either way by adding these I am removing my heat riser, air injection etc. What can I expect from this? The car is going to be used from may to october. So not much in cold weather. How poorly is the car going to run because of this? Mostly that''s what I''m concernd with with all the mods is how the car is going to run afterwards. I do not want to jeprodize a good running vehicle to gain a little power.

SO let me know, what are your thoughts and input.

headers will give you more HP for sure, and since you aren''t planning on running in cold weather you''ll be fine.As for the EGR, I have a 85 and my car runs fine without it.
