<DIV id=post_message_4827735>Before I waste any money on this old car I wanted to get more info. My 1987 Park Avenue 3.8 V6 fuel injected with 160,000 just started acting up suddenly. I could not get it to start at all. It wouldn't even act like it wanted to start. I then pushed the gas pedal all the way down fully opening the throttle then tried and it started but was somewhat hesitant. The check engine light comes on shortly after starting the car, but the car seems to run fine after that, other than a possible slightly higher than normal idle which may not be related. It will crank everytime this way ONLY. Any help is much appreciated.</DIV></TD></TR>

First check for codes.

Then check for dirt or soot in the ICV, Idle Control Valve.

Sounds like a fuel mixture problem.

Are there any other symptoms?

Hope this helps.

No other symptoms. I recently replaced the idle air control module. I dont think itcan be a mixture problem. Once the car starts it works perfectly.

The book advice for
HARD Starting is:

<ul>[*]Disconnected hot air tube to air cleaner.[*]Defective Idle Air Control valve.[*]Shorted or mis adjusted Throttle Position Sensor.[*]EGR valve stuck open.[*]Poor Oxygen Sensor signal.[*]INcorrect pressure from PVC system. Check for sealing of Oil filter cap.[/list]Thought I would look it up for you..

Hope it helps Good Luck.
