Coolant temp too high at idle
#14
coolant temp hi
Thanks for the reply Richard.
I've run the car through the whole summer in traffic and on the highway.
On the highway it stays at normal temp.
Idling in traffic the temp climbs until the radiator fan finally kicks on around 220-240 degrees, then it drops down to 190-200( the normal range). Then it starts to heat up again and eventually the fan comes on again.
So the system seems to be working, it's just a lot hotter than it used to run prior to the head gasket replacement.
You have given me a clue though. Maybe the radiator got changed and is now a smaller or less efficient radiator than the original.
Anyway, thanks for the info. It's still running more than a year later, so I will consider myself lucky.
