I have an '87 lesabre that supposedly overheats. I am planning to drain out the coolant (because of the cold here in Reno) and then replace the thermostat. Does that sound like a good plan? Thanks!

I believe your vehicle has the odd firing engine, 3.8L. If it does changing the thermostat is a piece of cake. An "O" ring should come with or get a new one when the thermostat is changed. Hope that solves the overheating problem. When removed you can place the old thermostat in a pot of hot water and see if it opens. The temp needs to be over 195 degrees F. The opening temp should be on the back of the thermostat stamped on the round pellet in the center. Let us know how you make out!

Thank you for the advice! I think i will try that when the weather warms up, and when I can get to the auto parts store. Got any suggestions as far as thermostats go???
Thanx
