I recently bought a 1984 Regal. They pulled out the original V6 engine and replaced it with a 70’s Buick 350 engine. I want to repair the AC and run the new R34 refrigerant. Not sure what I would need to change out to run the R34. It’s basically just missing the lines and compressor, everything else is there but not sure if it’ll work with the R34. Just wondering if anyone has had this problem. I’m going to take it to a mechanic just thought that I’d ask here first. Thank you for your assistance in this matter. He

 

To the best of my knowledge, they never came up with a :"Drop in refrigerant" when switching to R134A.
To do the job right , the hoses need to be switched to accommodate R134. The molecules of 134 were smaller than R12 and would leak out
The 134 hoses had an internal barrier.
They did have kits available to do the change out, don't know if they are still available.
