I have a 2000 buick park ave. It used to start instantly but now it cranks for about 30sec. then you have to step on excelorator and then it will start. I''''m thinking fuel problem. you can hear the fuel pump run for about 3 sec. then shut off.I listened for this three times this morning to see if it would startbetter, but it didnt help. Can anyone give some advice??? Edited by: kbdwh

i agree, it sounds like a fuel problem. Could be signs of a weak pump, or dirty injectors. I would check the pressure. check at prime, idle, and WOT.

Do you think its the pump? It never misses a beat on the road even if you step on it hard. What do you think of the pressure regulator, I read if you pull the vacuum line off there should not be any fuel in it. I pulled it off and it was full of fuel. Is this true.

replace immediately. there should be NO fuel in the vacuum lines. I dontknow ifyours falls into the recall that 98 and 99 L36 engines had, but I would call the dealer to check for you. there have been explosions of the plastic intakes due to this fpr failure.

Did some research on the recall and it was in effect.had the dealer change the fuel pressure regulator. It starts just fine now. Thanks for the info!!!

good to hear. those free dealer fixes are rare, but great! That park ave is a great car, and will last you a long time if taken care of right.
