i replaced my Ign. Coil in Feb. but recently i replaced it four days ago because one of the metal things (?) stopped sparking, evreything was ok for about 30minutes after i installed the new one but on my way home it started runing rough agin so i checked that coil that i replaced and it wasnt giving no sparks agin. After checking the coil i replaced it agin thinking maybe the just gave me a bad one, but after i installed the new coil it stopped sparking agin!!!! i just replaced my spark plugs and wires also!! is there something that could be killing that coil??someone please help!

samueljackson 09-30-2007 10:21 PM

prob the ign control module. have it tested. and also clean the contact between the icm and the bracket.

nate4l1f3 09-30-2007 10:58 PM

so its possible that the control module would be working for the other five coils but not for that one?

samueljackson 09-30-2007 11:09 PM

other five coils??? you only have 3 coils total. and you said you tried a total of 2 new ones. maybe im not understanding something.

but, did you check spark in the front 3 cylinders? or just the cyl thats giving you trouble?

nate4l1f3 10-01-2007 07:34 AM

yeah im sorry there are only three coils but each coil has two medal things sticking up from them (not sure what u call them). i checked the other coils and they are working fine, even on the bad coil its only one (medal thing) thats not sparking. And yes i replaced it twice

samueljackson 10-01-2007 02:55 PM

how are you checking for spark?

i dont see how one half of a coil would fire. that doesnt make much sense. real head scratcher.that coil is still one coil. itfires 2 cylinders at the same time. idk how only one would fire and not the other.

do you have a ses light coming on

nate4l1f3 10-02-2007 12:42 AM

well took it to the mech. and it turns out the spark plug wires were not routed right!!! so thats fixed, but the car keeps turning of on me out of nowhere! the guy says there was a code (3014?) and that it could possible be a sensor?

samueljackson 10-02-2007 03:12 PM

incorrect routing would not stop the coil from firing.

did you check for spark? or did the mechanic?

and was that code po14? not 100%, but i think thats the dtc for the coolant sensor. that would not shut ur engine off. maybe runn poor at worst case.

i would still have your icm tested.

nate4l1f3 10-04-2007 12:05 PM

the coil problem is fixed but my car continues to cut off on me while driving, it starts right back up but it continues to die on me. What could cause this and does a crank or cam sensor sound right?

samueljackson 10-04-2007 04:16 PM

cam sensor, definitely not. and the experiance ive had with crank sensors failing was a no start situation. have not seen an intermittant crank sensor problem.

as previously stated, i would take off, clean and test your icm.

nate4l1f3 10-04-2007 10:14 PM

ok i will do that first thing in the morning, also on a side note my car only seems to die we its hot outside....

samueljackson 10-05-2007 09:23 PM

those icm are commonly affected by temp.

nate4l1f3 10-12-2007 10:19 PM

samueljackson you been a big help so far!! here is the latest info on my headache!! Took it back to the mechanic and these codes were pulled. p0341, p0321, p1361, p1626. He came to the conclusion it is either the module or the computer. SO i took the module and got it tested and it turns out it tested bad!! so i was happy thinking thats my problem, after replacing the module i drove my car to work and yet agin it turned off on me!!! my next move is to take the module back and get it tested agin, if it test good i guess i will change the computer and hope thats it. If it test bad i wont know what to do@

samueljackson 10-14-2007 10:38 PM

with that many codes, i would wonder if the scanner would read a bad quad driver. if it does, then its the ecu.

thats a bummer, i hoped the icm would be ur only problem.

if you have a pick and pull junk yard near you, an ecu would be fairly cheap. just make sure to keep ur original prom chip.

keep us posted.

nate4l1f3 10-15-2007 01:09 AM

what is ecu? well i took the IGM i got two days ago and got it tested today and it turns out that it tested bad? could the computer be the problem?

nate4l1f3 10-15-2007 10:54 PM

so heres a summary, after getting my car checked on the computer the mech. came to the conclusion that it was either the IGN module or the Computer so i took my module to auto zone and it checked out bad. After replacing the module i drove my car for about 15 minutes and it turned off on me agin, i then took the module back to auto zone a day later and it checked out as bad! Could the computer be killing the module? also it seems my car drives fine and doesnt turn off at night but when its hot outside thats when it starts acting up!!! ( also i just changed my plugs and wires) any suggestions?

nate4l1f3 10-16-2007 01:01 AM

the car's computer BTW not the mech.

samueljackson 10-16-2007 11:59 PM

the ecu is the computer. ecu+engine contrl unit. someies called the pcm, powertrain contrain control module, or even brain. all different terms for the same part.

when you put the new ICM's on, did you clean the bracket they bolt down to? that must be corrosion free. and it is also important to put good layer of dielectric grease between that bracket and the icm. the grease protects from corrosion and also helps dissapate heat.

nate4l1f3 10-17-2007 01:24 PM

the base is corrosion free and clean, the mechanic will look at it tomorrow but my only question is do you think the computer could be causing this?

samueljackson 10-17-2007 10:40 PM

it is possible.
