New to this forum. I just bought a '98 LaSabre Limited w/ only 31K on it. Should I service the tranny? I do not know the service history on it. Anything w/ 1998 models to be concerned about? Any tips on for DIY?

It wouldn't hurt, but I wouldNOT put it on the top of your "to do" list, unless the fluid looks bad. GM specifies 50,000 miles if used for trailer towing or other heavy service. Otherwise, "the fluid and filter do not require changing". The time intervals, sometimes specified for other services, do not apply to transmission fluid.
As a practical matter, particularly if you intend to keep the car for many miles, I would probably change the fluid and filter when time permits and then in 40 - 50,000 mile intervals. GM seems to think of 100,000 miles as "lifetime", but you'd probably like it to be longer!
