HID lights
 

ok so i am looking for cheap good HID lights for my 2000 buick i want them as brights it would be a single bulb for brights and a different bulb for dims not a unibulb so what are my best bets anyone have some websites for me to look at i am looking to get either 8000k or 6000 i am not sure what to get either also can you tell me what to get for the color brightness stuff.

Your best bet is 6000k 35w 9006 bulbs. I got mine on eBay for $50 shipped, and they have a 2 year warranty. Recently one burned out, and I'm going to send them back to be repaired/replaced for the price of shipping. I've had both 4300k and 6000k and I like the 6000k better. Here's a pic of the 6000k:

Here's a set basically the same as mine. You just tell them what bulb and the temp (what k) you want.


You really only need them in the low beams. I hardly ever used my highs when I had them in. Plus, you get a little delay for a couple seconds before the bulbs reach its operating temp. I added a relay to my lights so that the high beams stayed on with the lows, and that helped fill in the gaps that were left with the high beams on.

ok thanks but i just dong it as brights and my brights are 9005 would that make a difference sorry i just have no idea about head lights

We talking bulbs or actual kits with ballasts to ground and bulb warm up time?

I personally wouldn't put them in the brights.. In the lows, they're just as good as brights. But if thats where you want to put them, yes, go with the 9005 bulbs.

How was the cutoff with out modifiying the original headlights to Lexus/Toyota/BMW projector(Retrofit)? Some cars with aftermarket HIDs blind oncoming traffic even when aimed correctly. Thats why some state Law Enforcement Officers(LEOs) will harass you especially if you run 16K (Violet Purple) cause they are not D.O.T. aproved. I'd have to wait till I get home to post the pic of HID with no cutoff. With our housings, you could possibly paint the bottom chrome pieces to help eliminate that issue but I would have to chase down that one regal guy who did the retrofit to confirm that.

I would 2nd the "leave the high beams as is" suggestion. When you flick the high beams, there will be a delay on a HID setup. Just be glad the Hi/low beams are seperate cause the dual HID bulb kits are pricey.

The cutoffs were a little fuzzy, but not real bad. I actually had more people flash their lights at me since I modified some high beam bulbs for the lows than I did with my HIDs. I went home to my parents' for a little over two weeks during Christmas break, and a little over a week through the break, one of my ballasts quit working, so I modified some 9005 bulbs to fit. So in those two weeks, one with HIDs and the other with the modified bulbs, more people had a problem with the modded bulbs.

I've been wanting to do a retrofit or even paint the bottom reflector, but I'll probably have a new car by the summer, so its not really worth the time or money

Yeah I still haven't cut my lights open yet to reseal them or delete the orange reflector either. Looking at your pic again, the hood kinda also helps the way it comes over the top of the housing.

The hood does help, I also had one of those vinyl bras on the summer, and I found that made a difference too.
