Hello

I have a 98 regal gs. The car will not start or turn over, it is like there is no battery in it. The shifter will not come out of park, even with car switched on and the brake pedal pressed. Please help.

Sometimes theres a power lock that you need to get the shift out of position like the brake pedal needs to be pressed.

If you have no lights either.. you need to charge that battery and re troubleshoot.

I do have headlights, and some dash lights, abs, and low trac, I have tried jumper cables, nothing

Well that helps. Thanks.

Your starting circuit is bad.. It goes many places from your key to the starter..

There are easy circuit breakers and fuses. Some in the familiar fuse box, check them first, and some under the hood.

Getting deeper tracing the voltages is required when turning the key and looking for the circuit and key to try to turn the starter.

Basically the safety circuit activates the key, the key activates a start relay and it activates the solenoid on the starter and the solenoid puts lots of amps to the big starter motor...
Often this big cable breaks or quits since it gets lots of use.

If you need further information you need to find answers from your car voltages you find.
If you haven't the tools to check points for voltages your a future shop customer..

Good Luck

hello
One thing I forgot to mention, the shift lever is stuck in park, even with the key switched to the last position before start and the brake pedal pressed, the problem is intermittent as well, I might go today and the car crank, but tomorrow could be nothing, would your last post relate to this as well? Concerning the starting circuit?

thanks

Please understand I am not exactly familiar with your particular car.. I own 2 ... make that three as of today.. hmm..

I am refering to the book on your car.

However, the ability to actually turn over the starter motor changes with models. Buick has a starter motor circuit. With the proper key it will allow the start circuit through a IGN MAIN MAXI FUSE 1..

Does your starter click?

There are many PAGES of troubleshooting the start circuit, testing all the points of possibilities shown in the manual.

Can you check your fuses?
