2002 regal speedo. problem

I have a 2002 Regal and the speedometer needle somehow is now on the wrong side of the stop (zero MPH) post that the needle rests on when engine is off. It appears to be trying to move but cant because the post is preventing it. I'd appreciate any info on a fix.
