When I turn of the left blinker I hear a buzzing sound and the dash display lights go off and the engine shuts off. The car is fine til the blinker is used. Is there like a blinker relay in dassh that is shorting out?

I have a 97 Regal that has been in and out of the shop for everything. The latest sounds like the same problem you're having. It started when I used the right turn signal. The gauges would "peg out", all the dash lights would come on, then the whole car would shut down. (Very annoying when driving at night). Then when I used the left signal, the dash would go nuts again, but not shut down. Then it didn't want to start, it had power, but it just buzzed and wouldn't turn over. I'd have to try again and again and finally it would "connect". Took it into the local dealer the first time and they couldn't track down the problem. The mechanic thought it was caused by a previous owner doing a self install of a remote starter. He fixed some of the grounds under the dash and felt that the problem was fixed. Well, needless to say it started all over again. This time the mechanic was able to get a code of "ignition mismatch" and replaced the ignition switch and wiring. So far that has seemed to do the trick, but it's only been a few days. The mechanic said if the ignition switch doesn't do the trick then it may be a problem with the "body control module". It's good to know that there are others with the same problem, (not for you guys, I know), but maybe this is a chronic problem with these vehicles, who knows? One thing is for sure, if I ever get ahead of all the problems I've had with this Regal, I'll get rid of it and never even look at a Buick again.
