63 Riviera distributor cap issue
 

I have replaced the distributor cap on my 63 Riv. v8,401. I replaced the dist.
wires in proper order according to firing order diagram I pulled off internet for my model. When I crank the engine, it backfires and will not start. Can a member please supply a firing order and also kindly explain why the engine is back firing. It is getting hot in Fl. and as my car is not equipped with ac, I would like to drive it soon. Thanks a lot.
