The forthcoming Lucerne (along with the Cadillac DTS) appear to be built on the same "C" platform as the current Park Ave (and DeVille).

Can anyone confirm that it is?

i believe that is false..i have a list of platform, and what cars are on them, and the C has not been used in quite some time..it appears as though the luceren is on the G platform, which was the older bonneys...

No, the "C" platform definitely has been used recently; in fact at least up thru the 2005's. I have a 1997 Park Avenue Ultra, which per my GM Service Manual, is designated as a C Platform. The 2005 Park Ave's are still very similar and remain on this platform.

I believe this platform was first used for the Aurora, then Seville, DeVille, and Park Avenue. It has been GM's uplevel front wheel drive platform. If I'm not mistaken, the "G" was a rear wheel drive mid-size platform, although the designation may have been resurrected as something else.

The reason I ask the question is that I lookedat the underside of the Lucerne at the Chicago Auto Show, and it sure looks familiar. Since it is still FWD, and the "C" was so good, it seems likely that GM might have retained it. That would be good for me, especially for future parts availability.

C is what the Park Avenue is and G is the Riviera and Aurora. The underside of the Park Ave and riviera are very simalar. The 2000 through 2005 LeSabre (H car)looks almost the same as the C and G cars.

Thank you for the info!

"Car & Driver", in this month's review of the Cadillac DTS, said it was "still pinned to the familiar G-platform, GM's front-drive, large-sedan structure...". They also said it was "mechanically identical to a V-8 Lucerne.." so Iguess they're all pretty much the same under the skin.
