Rear View Mirror Wiring Question

2 Attachment(s)
I got a rear view mirror with a compass out of a 2000 or 2001 LeSabre. I am wanting to put it in my dad's 2000 LeSabre. The mirror wiring has 5 wires coming out of it. They are: Brown, Black with White Stripe, Green, Grey, and Pink. There was also some kind of box on the wind shield and grabbed it to cause I didnt know what it was. Its wires are: Black with White Stripe, Green with Black Stripe, Black, Gold. Here is pictures of everything. Thanks

No one have an idea?

The box is probably a rain sensor, or light sensor for the autodim mirror. I'm leaning towards the rain sensor for the wipers.

Good. Something I don't have to wire then. So now how do I wire this mirror up?

2k2cse 12-05-2011 01:33 PM

You can remove the box and the wires for it, then basically just match the wires on the mirror to the ones in the car.

robert99ranger 12-05-2011 04:09 PM

There isn't any wires on the car that I know of to match it up.

2k2cse 12-05-2011 05:41 PM

Does your dad's car have autodim, compass, and whatever else the new mirror has?

robert99ranger 12-05-2011 09:34 PM

Nope, that's why I am wanting to add it to his car. Somehow I need to find a wiring diagram. I figured someone on here has added this before.

2k2cse 12-05-2011 10:54 PM

Yeah, you'll definitely need a wiring diagram. I don't think it's going to be a real easy task, unless you can get your hands on the complete wiring harness for it. If you haven't already, take a look through some of the older posts. There isn't a lot of activity on this forum anymore, so you might be hard pressed to find someone who currently has it done. Sorry I can't be of anymore help.

Well I have added an Explorer Over Head Console with the built in compass and thermometer to my Ranger. Its not hard thing but it is without a wiring diagram. Is there another Buick forum that is more active? Thank for all of your help Travis. I appreciate it.

The only other site I can think of is http://www.buickforums.com/ I've only been there once or twice, but there seems to be a lot more information and more activity there.

I noticed you're also on gmforum.com There's usually a lot of good information there, but it seems a lot slower than it usually is. I think there's someone there who has access to a lot of wiring diagrams.

After a quick look on the internet, you can try http://forums.h-body.org Its for the H-Body cars. I'm not sure if there's much information on the fwd platform, or if its mostly on the rwd Vega, Monza, etc.

Putting the overhead console in your Ranger sounds pretty awesome. I had a 2000 Ranger XLT 4x4 before I got my buick. Unfortunately, the woman who decided to turn left across my lane, and stop directly in front of me when it was too late for me to stop, decided I didn't need it anymore :\

here's a pic of mine just after I got it.

And the aftermath of hitting the rear quarter of a Focus wagon, and t-boning an accord.

Thanks for the tip. Ya, I joined over there to trying to hopefully find some wiring info. Also on the fullsizechevy since I got one from a '01 Chevy the same day I got the Buick one. Gonna put the chevy one in my girlfriend's Taurus. Just need some wiring for it to.

Good looking Ranger. To bad you got hit.

Here is mine currently. I have spent way to much time and money on mods not that you can see them all from the photo though.

Looks good. I love how agile and capable the rangers are off road. I've gone through trails that a full size truck would have no hopes of squeezing through haha

EDIT: I'm not sure what happened to the link I posted to buickforums.com  But its fixed now.

We have a 96 ranger xlt 2X4 at work and it's on it's last leg. I like the non US assembled rangers we had over in the desert better. The ones we had were 5 speed 4X4 diesel engines and Mazda interior trim pices with ford logo on the steering wheel. Did they even offer a Diesel stateside? I had the same luck with my Subaru. They have a Diesel Boxer turbo engine but it will never make to the states.
Interior looked like this but LHD. Only gripe was the shifter hitting passengers in that tiny cabin.

Before I get too far off topic, did you have any luck finding any of the diagrams? All the books I find for Haynes skim over the mirror and the pins on the harness. Forum with a s might have the diagram but it's hit or miss somethimes. I would say 60degreev6 forum might help even tho lesabre has a 90 degree.
