I have taken scrupulous care of my 1989 Buick LeSabre, but now at 160,000 miles, it needs to have the transmission rebuilt. That will cost me about $1800. I am thinking that I need to get rid of the car at this point. How sound are the engines on these cars? Any ideas? Thanks!

if you dump $1800 in it. i don't think it would be worth that much with that many miles. time for a new one.

thats is a (c) engine and not a bad engine but not the best 231 either, unless the body is mint id let it go. if it was at least an L eng id say go for it, but 160k on susp ud prob have to invest more than 1800 to have a reliable car. not really worth that much imop

It is always hard to know when it is time to say goodbye to a vehicle. I think you may beat that point. When it cost more to repair it than you can sell it, then you are pretty close to that point. The only other consideration is, assume you are putting $1800.00 into it, what kind of car can you purchase for that amount? Will it be as reliable as the one you own? It sounds like you have taken very good care of your car so I kind of doubt it. Always get 2nd opinions. Best wishes
