I'm new to the site and so far I like what I see.

I recently came into a '92 LeSabre on its second engine w/ 40k on it and 200+ on the car.The car runs and drives perfect when cold. After it warms up, it gets really sluggish and eventually stalls. Once it cools down, it will start and drive but the sluggishness is there and it runs like it has a vacuum leak.

I've checked the obvious stuff like plug wires, plugs, thermostat, waterpump and vacuum hoses but found nothing out of place.

Anyone run into this problem before? What was the fix? Also, is there a known problem with the head gaskets on these engines?

Although this could be quite a number of things, I would first suspect the fuel pump.

I am not aware of any particular problem with the head gaskets on the 3.8 (assuming that is your engine). Now the valve cover gaskets are different story, but they're relatively easy to replace!

I thought fuel pump too but it runs fine when you give it some gas. Possibly the fuel filter but it is getting gas just idles rough at times.

I live 50 miles away from where the car was located so I plugged the brake booster line and got it home without it dying. Connecting the brake booster line insures it will dies in 5 miles or less.

So, looks like a vacuum leak somewhere. I should have it chased down this weekend. Aside from paint and a catalytic converter the car is perfect.

The engine and tranny are original and have 200k on them so I'll be rebuilding the motor in the coming weeks.
