Delayed wipers

Hi, I am a new Buick owner. I have a 2001 Lesabre. When I try and put my windshield wipers on intermittent it works for a little while and then they go real fast.

Any ideas what to look for?

I'm pretty sure you need a new wiper motor. If you can't regulate the speed at all when this happens the resistor in the motor is shot. Mine went a few years ago when the wipers would start on a sunny day and not stop till I pulled the fuse. Mine is acting up again. I got a rebuilt on from Nappa last time, for half the price of new. I guess you get what you pay for. Jim

naturalgas I agree with you regarding , "getting what you pay for".

I'm not too sure of the need to replace the wiper motor since there is a resistor in the "smart stick" multifunction switch that controls wiper motor speed. What I think is happening is, the resistor section in the switch is bypassing the resistor elements and jumping to full speed or the delay section is providing full voltage on it's own.

Also I have found that a poor ground connection for the wiper motor will cause it to self start and be difficult to shut off . The park mechanism will operate with the switch turned to the off position and without a good ground the park portion just kept it working.
